Established in 1910
Carrboro United Methodist Church was organized in July 1910 with approximately 30 members. Our church functioned as a mission of the Methodist Church of Chapel Hill from 1910 to 1915. The first services were held in early 1912 at a school building on Main Street and remained there for 41 years. For more than 30 years the church was part of a 5-point charge circuit which included Orange Church, Merritt’s Chapel, Massey’s Chapel and Clover Garden. With continued increase in membership, a larger church was constructed at 200 Hillsborough Road, which was completed in 1953. The sanctuary was renovated and enlarged in 1966, as well as the addition of the education wing. Soon after construction, a daycare center and after-school program were opened at this facility. Our 4-star childcare center remained active for 50 years and permanently closed in 2020.
